Inside Ralph Lauren's Holiday Home

When Ralph Lauren was a little boy in Bronx he fell in love...with a pair of blue suede shoes, but he couldn't afford them at the time. Now "what I do is about living," says Lauren, With about 300 stores all over the world, and $11 billion in sales, Ralph Lauren & Polo Ralph Lauren, are household names. Architectural Digest shows us inside his, and wife Ricky's, Jamaican holiday villa on Round Hill, near Montego Bay. They have transformed the place into a sunny and bright escape. Take a look:

Asian Antiques, such as old ginger jars and chinoiserie mirrors add an exotic feel to the living room

"We live on the veranda," Ralph Lauren says of the loggia/dinning terrace. "The goal was to make our family comfortable in a luxurious setting," explains Ricky Lauren, who wrote a book about Jamaica called My Island. "We go there as often as we can escape."

“It had carpeting inside and outside; that’s strange in Jamaica,” Ricky Lauren says of the residence, built in the 1950s. “It took a lot to restore it. Now it’s like a plantation house.”

In 1996 the couple purchased a beach house just down the hill and renovated it. They named it the White Orchid. The interior courtyard. “The great house has a classic feel,” says Ralph Lauren. “The White Orchid is clean, barefoot and luxurious."

The couple expanded the pool deck. The beach house is “like being on a boat,” notes Ralph Lauren. “The greenness of Jamaica is gorgeous. The air is very mild. It feels like a paradise. There’s a naturalness and ease of living. It smells like a beautiful place.”

It's definitely like being on a boat, and I would love to be his guest and stay in that beach house!
